Small gardens
Thoughtful plans for courtyards, backyards, food gardens, and compact spaces.
Permaculture-informed garden design • Southern Oregon
Thoughtful landscape and garden designs tailored to your needs, your place, and the scale of your dreams — from a small home garden to a larger growing landscape.

01 / Garden Design
I offer permaculture-informed landscape and garden design tailored to each client and each site. The goal is not to impose one look, but to notice what is already there and create a design that fits the land, the people, and the way the space will be used.
Thoughtful plans for courtyards, backyards, food gardens, and compact spaces.
Whole-site thinking for larger gardens, homesteads, and growing spaces.
A design process shaped around your goals, conditions, resources, and capacity.

Productive spaces designed around soil, season, and everyday use.

Gardens can be places for learning, connection, and shared work.

Design that considers patterns, relationships, and the long life of a site.

02 / About Mae Gardens
I fell in love with gardening at a young age. I find some of my calmest moments among my garden, and my very first job was at a plant nursery.
When I felt the urge to leave my hometown, I joined a work-exchange program in Italy and worked on a permaculture homestead. I fell in love with its philosophy and way of life. Since then, I have been striving to share those principles in the hope of changing lives in the way they changed mine.
For those unfamiliar with the word, permaculture is a design approach for creating sustainable human habitats and agricultural systems. The term was coined by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in Australia in the 1970s. Their early work developed into a broader design philosophy, and Permaculture One was published in 1978.
Permaculture also has deeper roots than its modern name and founders. Its ideas have been influenced by many traditions and by Indigenous and traditional land-based knowledge developed over generations. I believe it is important to recognize those histories, respect the cultural and spiritual values connected to them, and practice permaculture with humility rather than treating those teachings as something newly invented.
For me, responsible permaculture offers practical ways to move from a degenerative, extractive relationship with our surroundings toward more sustainable and regenerative ways of living.
